Virtue Vio Ascend Review: Is It Worth The Hype?

There are many reasons to consider the Virtue Vio Ascend paintball mask. It is a great product for those who want a high-performance mask that provides comfort, protection, and affordability all in one package.

The VIO Ascend is a new mask made by Virtue. They first made the Contour. It was an excellent mask, and they made both the Extend and Excess masks with only minor changes. But this time, the Ascend really delivered in an area where paintball lacked: a sleek, high-performance mid-range mask that is affordable for most players.

Virtue Vio Ascend Specification

The mask has two panes of glass. The lens is tinted and scratch-resistant. The mask also covers the eyes, which are very important for keeping your eyes safe. There is a hinge lock system that lets you change the lens very quickly. It also provides 100% UV protection, with a foam nosepiece and rigid protection zones in certain areas to protect it from scratches and impacts.

It has large lenses that offer a big field of view, which is better than others masks on the market because they have smaller lenses or less field of view. Advanced lenses are available if you need them as well as an upgradeable goggle strap for more comfortability.

Features of Virtue Vio Ascend paintball mask

Durable and Comfy Foam

The foam in the Ascend is really great. It is a thick and plushy but still soft, so you can wear it for a day of paintball and it will not make your face sore.

The Ascend has a unique foam system. It is like a sleeve that is attached to the foam. The foam can be changed quickly and easily because it’s simple to take out the old one and put in the new one. This makes it much easier than other mattresses where you have to cut out the old, then glue in the new, which takes longer, too.

Dual-Pane Thermal Lens

All Virtue masks use the same lens system. The Ascend is like the other lenses by Virtue that uses a quick-release lens retention system. The lenses are thermal, so they won’t ever fog upon you. They also have a wraparound vision, and nobody can sneak up on you because of this lens.

Lots of masks with quick-change lenses are not as good as the Ascend. It is easy to take off the lens for cleaning. Push down on two tabs by the ears and then you can take off the lens. The base model of Ascend has a smoke tint which is a nice upgrade because it blocks out the sun without having to use a visor.

If you don’t want a smoke lens, there are still many other options. There are different types of lenses. Some of the options are dark smoke, clear, chromatic silver, chromatic ice, chromatic ruby, and chromatic gold.

Long-Lasting Frame

The Ascend frame is just one piece, which means that it is not as customizable. The top and bottom cannot be mixed and matched. But because of this, the Ascension mask costs less than other masks with a 2-piece frame like the Extend and Contour. This cost difference is passed on to consumers in the form of lower prices.

The Ascend has a different frame than the Excess and Contour. The only difference is that it is 1 piece instead of 2 pieces. It is about the same size as the Excess but bigger than the Contour. All 3 are really close in size.

The mask on the inside of the Ascend appears to be slightly wider than that of the Extend or Contour. The frames are a little bigger in this mask, so there is more space inside. I like this because I don’t want to feel claustrophobic in my mask. But you should try it on to see if you like it before buying.

Functional Goggle Strap

This mask strap does a good job. It is easy to adjust and it has rubber ridges that keep it in place on your head. The rubber ridge helps you have an easier time when playing and the mask will not slide around when you are wearing the strap.

Wonderful Ventilation Design

The Ascend has a good ventilation system. You can see it in both the front and the sides. This makes it feel really breathable and comfortable because it can cool down hot air from inside to outside very well.

It also helps you to be able to talk with your teammates when you are wearing this mask. You don’t have to yell if you want to talk with them.

Pros & Cons of Virtue Vio Ascend Paintball Mask

Pros: It is a great value. It is high-end and comes with a low price tag. It is comfortable, it has tinted/smoke lens and it can be changed easily. The lenses are thermal so that they don’t fog up.

Cons: The Ascend has not soft foam ears. The ears in the Ascend are rubber. It is not a big deal to me because these earpieces are still comfortable and allow you to hear well. But if you really want soft ears, you will need the Contour or Extend.

Final Thought

If you are looking for a good paintball mask, this one is an excellent option. It has a great dual-pane lens and it isn’t customizable like other masks, but it also isn’t as expensive. The Ascend is definitely one of the best bang for your buck masks on the market.
